(^ My mood right now despite my head cold ^)
(No affiliate links in this post! It's all techniques and products that I actually use everyday!)
You know how there are people who just fall into your life and leave a huge impact - and you only ever see them once - but they make you feel like like you are on top of the world? I ran into one of the nicest people I have ever met and her small act of kindness helped me believe in myself when I was running on empty.
Curly hair routine is at the end of the post if you want to skip the backstory.
Let me set the scene...

I was serving drinks at my part time job at a dueling piano bar. The other girl who was supposed to serve with me called in sick and I was on my own for 6 hours serving dozens of customers from 6:30 - 1:30 am.
I was down on energy from an already long work week at my day job, plus I was already suffering from a head cold where my ears and sinuses were plugged up. I had drinks spilled on me - multiple times - and been knocked around by some drunk guys. I was really depending on my co-worker to come in so I could leave a little early and get some rest. But sometime things just don't go the way you hope...
Despite the rough night I kept a good attitude and I hustled without letting myself think about my misery! At one point I had to put my hair up in a bun because that is my go-to hair style when I need to focus and get moving.

Towards the end of the night, probably around 12:30am I had an amazing conversation with a bride-to-be. She came up to me - her name was Natalie - and she told me I was gorgeous and she loved my hair! She was wear a really cute white dress and veil that showed off her cool tattoos on her legs, back, and arms. Her blonde hair was done up in a trendy wavy, messy style.
Natalie had been there for an hour or so and told me I was doing such a great a job serving and clearing glasses. She wanted me to know that I was going to be successful, and do great things, even if this job is my stepping stone or my career path. She even pulled her friend in to tell her how well put together I looked and to say that I was going places by the way I worked hard and poised myself!
Now, she clearly had been drinking and I could tell she was a little tipsy, but she pulled me in for a hug and started asking me about my dreams and aspirations. She was so genuinely interested in me and it was the most encouraging interaction I've had in a while.
That's kind of person I want to be. I want to help people believe in themselves.

And if teaching curly girls some awesome tricks for curly hair is how I can help, then that is where I will start! Natalie taught me it only takes a moment to completely change someone's day. Simple acts of kindness can go such a long way!
And with that here's my shower routine

SHOWER
Products you'll need:
Your favorite shampoo (If it is wash day. I only wash 1 once a week)
Your favorite conditioner
Your favorite leave-in conditioner (optional)
Your favorite curl styling cream
Your favorite curl gel (for extra hold & definition)
I typically start off my wetting my hair and lathering/washing with shampoo (Briogeo Curl Charisma rice amino + avocado hydrating shampoo) if I need too.
Then I detangle with my Briogeo Curl Charisma rice amino + shea curl defining conditioner and let it sit on my hair for 2-5 mins while I wash my face & body. When I rinse out the conditioner, I pull my hair to its natural part and let the hair fall into big chunks down my face and neck.
Once the conditioner is rinsed this where you would add the leave-in conditioner.
I don't use a leave in because I feel like that is a little too much product for my hair, but if I find the right leave-in I might start using one.
Next I squeeze a little water out of my hair so it's still wet - but not dripping - and I use my Briogeo Curl Charisma rice amino + avocado leave-in defining creme to work a tablespoon size of product on all my ends. Make sure you don't separate the curl chunks you made when rinsing your hair. Then I continue pulling products through my hair by moving up higher on the hair chunks until I get to my roots.
(I am usually still in the shower but with the water turned off)
I do it this way to keep the majority of the product on my ends and gradually have less product as I get closer to my scalp. It takes a little practice to get the product worked this way throughout your hair, but trust me - this is the best way to give the curls definition and lower frizz!
If I want extra definition for a great curl day, I use a quarter size of Briogeo Curl Charisma rice amino + quinoa frizz control gel rubbed in between my hands and scrunched up into my hair.
POST SHOWER
Tools you'll need:
T-shirt towel or microfiber towel
Hair clips
Diffuser or 1-2 hrs of time to air dry
To take out any excess water I use a cotton t-shirt towel (microfiber towels are great too) to lightly squeeze out extra water and help even out the products on my hair.
Then I pin my roots up with clips - Dana Marie has another awesome video for how to maximize volume - and diffuse or air dry! If I am doing my hair for work, I typically diffuse on the coolest setting. Otherwise, if I have time I let my hair air dry.
And that is how I get my 3A-3B curls looking fine!
As you can see I LOVE the BRIOGEO products! They are by far my favorite because the shampoo and conditioner are so hydrating! My favorite product is the conditioner because of how easy it is to detangle my hair and the creaminess. It smells wonderful - but it isn't an over-powering scent. It's super light and doesn't leave my hair feeling heavy at all! I highly recommend giving Briogeo a try because of their awesome business model and highly rated natural products for all hair!
Here's a 10% off coupon link for your first order with Briogeo too! I love when companies give out coupons when referring friends because to me that says they really believe in their products. Feel free to share with all the curly girls you know!
Can't commit to buying a whole product line from Briogeo? Try their travel sized kit!

These products are game changers!
It's only $25 for a travel size of each product (~3-4 uses of each)
($22.50 if you use my coupon above)
