Me, My Hair, and Skin. Because Hair Care and Skin Care Just Go Together

So now that I have officially stopped working two jobs, took a 2 week vacation in the Caribbean (YES) ... I figured it was time to take a minute (get back into a blogging schedule) and treat myself that extra special skin and hair day. It's the holidays! Your stressed about gift giving and family drama, and the end of the year... Take an evening for yourself!
You know you WANT to do something nice and make your skin look like instagram models - but you have no idea where to start! That sounds like me. Luckily. I wrote everything down this time! So here's the Me, My Hair, and Skin Routine that you can easily use your favorite products for! And boy was my skin glowing after this one :)
To get you relaxing - here's some picture of the beach in Aruba... and snorkeling!

Maybe light a candle and play some chill music for this part to help you wind down.
HAIR TREATMENT
This is designed specifically for curly hair, but just so I don't leave my straight and wavy girls hanging... check out this video from Jessica Clements because she is amazing and I love all of her videos. Here she talks about her hair care routine, so you can follow any of her hair care (or skin care) routine because they are always on point.
Start by getting your hair wet (in the shower or just get your hair dripping with with the shower head) with warm water. Cleanse with your favorite cleansing wash - I used Build Up Buster from Deva Curl. I massage the products starting at the roots and then working through all of the hair. Once I lather it up well and I start to rinse that out for clean fresh hair. Then I grab my Melt into Moisture from Deva Curl and apply in sections until all of my hair is coated. I put my hair into a low bun and let it sit for around 10 mins. Just relaxing, no phone. Just me and my music. Once I feel like I let it sit long enough I take out the bun and rinse.
For an extra hydrating treatment, I'll put a shower cap on and then do the following skin care routine, and then rinse out after that. I typically only do this during the dry, cold winter months.
Time to pamper your skin!
FAVORITE CLEANSER
You know which one, the one you love but don't want to use too much because you know you will run out too fast. For me this is my Sei Bella Youth Cleanser that cleans so much deeper than any of the drug store products I buy.
TIP : Use warm water to open up the pores in your skin
My skin feels so soft and firm after washing. I used to use Melaleuca products all the time, but I didn't feel like they had enough products that I wanted to buy every month, so it came down to being more expensive than I would have liked. Some day I might return to them! (French vanilla coffee still makes me salivate. So good)
PORE MASK/BIORE FACIAL PEELS
Here is where we remove those pesky black heads that plague the nose and cheek area. My favorite is the BIORE charcoal nose peel strips, but I like to alternate with deep cleaning clay masks as well. {BTW if you can afford a facial once a month, please take me with :) }
TIP : After removing the peel, rinse with cold water to close pores.

MASKS
Next I do a cheap clay mask: the Studio360 (Drug store off-brand) Avocado Oatmeal clay mask. This is great for more sensitive and drier skin. Your face turns a little green (add cucumbers to the eyes for the authentic spa vibe) but it really helps shrink up the pores and create that silky smooth surface.
I recently tried Australian Pink Clay mask that I received from my Birch Box and holy cow! It had a pretty serious tingle and my cheeks felt baby butt smooth! It reminded me of the days in college that I used cinnamon and honey as a mask. I'm not sure I will buy the full size, but it's definitely on my radar for potential clay masks to buy in the future!

TONER
If I stick with the trend of using all my favorites... Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Toner might be up at the top of the list. I love rose everything so this was just a no brainer. Doesn't destroy the moisture in my skin. It is the most hydrating toner I've been able to find. I have fairly dry skin and winters are especially difficult, so this is a must!

SERUM/DEEP MOISTURIZERS
Air Repair Protect + Prevent. Another banger from my Birch Box! I love how light this feels on my skin and the long lasting moisturizing effects don't stop all day long! It doesn't leave your skin looking too dewy or oily, so it's perfect for everyday!

EYE CREAM
You know, I was never a big believer in eye cream. I totally thought it was a scam, but honestly, there is something to it. It can seriously decrease puffiness and add moisture to that sensitive area that can get irritated by regular moisturizers. My favorite is by far Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I love how it sinks into my skin and is so soo hydrating. I LOVE IT. I use it every night, and sometimes takes breaks to use Burts Bees Royal Jelly Eye Cream.

MOISTURIZER
My go-to is St Ives Renewing Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer because it is super affordable at any drug store or superstore and it sinks into my skin so well! The other nice part about this is that I don't see an oily T-zone towards the end of the day like I normally see with cheap moisturizers. The consistency is very creamy and whipped which makes it feel so luxurious. I highly, highly recommend for anyone on a budget looking for whipped moisturizers.

I hope you can take a moment sometime this week to enjoy yourself and get a little extra pampering. You deserve it! :) And don't forget to drink lots of water!
